HELLO, I'M
Lance Harris

Lance Harris DMD
United States Navy Dentist
Career Objectives
Since before I knew I wanted to be a dentist, I've had a powerful desire to own a business. This desire has led me to the US Navy where I've had the opportunity to grow both as a leader and a clinician. Currently, I am stationed on Camp Courtney in Okinawa, Japan and will be returning to the West Coast to finish my military obligation in the summer of 2022. During my final year in the Navy (2022-2023), I am hoping to work as an associate (moonlight) in private practice as I begin the transition into civilian practice. Ideally, I am searching for a practice that will be available for complete buy-out upon completing my military service in the summer of 2023.
About Me
My Roots
I was born and raised in Fallbrook, California, a small avocado town in northern San Diego County. My father, Tom, worked as an entrepreneur and successfully started his own cinnamon roll franchise called Cindy's Cinnamon Rolls that flourished across the country in the 1980s and 1990s. My mother, Cindy, worked as a dental assistant in several practices gaining great exposure to different business models and systems within dentistry. There's no doubt that the entrepreneurial spirit of my father and the clinically minded personality of my mother have influenced my choice to pursue practice ownership.

Upon graduating high school, I enrolled in Brigham Young University where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Following my first year in undergrad, I took a two year hiatus to serve a full time mission in Guadalajara, Mexico where I learned to speak Spanish fluently and gained a better appreciation of what it means to serve.
Once I returned from my mission, I endeavored to best position myself to apply to dental school by focusing on both schoolwork and shadowing dentists in my community. It was also during this time that I met my beautiful wife Lisa who has been a pillar of strength in helping me achieve my career goals. We now have two daughters.

I was accepted to the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ASDOH) where I completed my formal dental education. At school, I quickly realized that the most enjoyable aspect of dentistry was the daily interaction that I had with both my patients and coworkers. Although I enjoy the clinical aspect of dentistry, what gets me excited for work everyday is the close relationship that I have with my patients and coworkers. This, along with my desire to lead, is what has driven my decision to purchase a dental practice.
After graduating ASDOH in 2019, I began my journey as a dentist in the United States Navy. Our first duty station took us to Bangor, Washington where I completed a credentialing tour gaining experience in different dental specialities. We loved Washington and the Pacific Northwest! Upon finishing our time in Washington, we elected to go to Okinawa, Japan for a two year tour with the 3rd Dental Battalion. We are currently stationed on Camp Courtney in Okinawa and have thoroughly enjoyed working with Marines overseas.

Clinical Experience
I've been fortunate to serve in the United States Navy. Working in a group practice setting with multiple specialists has greatly enhanced my knowledge of dentistry and has made me a more well rounded clinician. I've had clinical rotations with oral surgeons, radiologists, endodontists, prosthodontists, pedodontists, orthodontists, exodontists, and comprehensive dentists. By experiencing the different facets of clinical dentistry, I've been able to cherry pick certain speciality procedures to improve my skill set. These procedures include proficiency in CADCAM or digital dentistry, surgical extractions, third molar extractions, molar endodontics, and restoring implants. As a private practice practitioner, I hope to utilize these procedures to maximize the experience of my patients. Moreover, I hope to continue to improve my clinical expertise in implant dentistry through work with specialists along with continuing education courses.

Digital Dentistry
One of the more interesting and enjoyable aspects of dentistry for me is digital dentistry. In particular I enjoy CADCAM dentistry where I've become proficient in CEREC. Digitally scanning impressions and designing crowns, onlays, inlays, and veneers is a creative process and when done well can be a major practice builder. Being able to deliver a same day crown is fulfilling for both the clinician and the patient. It is my hope that upon acquiring a practice, I can help build the reputation of the practice through the implementation or the continuation of digital dentistry.

Pathway to Ownership

Selling and purchasing a practice is a huge milestone in any dentist's career. From dealing with brokers and lawyers to negotiating price, it can be a hectic and time consuming process. My goal in this purchase is to allow ample time for the seller to create an exit strategy that is customized to their career goals. Whether this transition means having a period of associateship for either the buyer or seller or having a quick handover, I'm ready to work with you!
I will be returning to the West Coast in the summer of 2022 to finish my final year in the US Navy. Ideally, I'd like to associate for a period of time while finishing my military obligation. Although this might not be possible due to location, we can still begin the process of practice transition during this time. If you are interested in selling your practice in the next couple years or you know of colleagues that might, please feel free to reach out to me at lanceharrisdmd@gmail.com or (760)-213-2739.
